This course is one of the highest level in floristry available in the UK and combines both advanced floristry design and construction with major event displays and this is backed up with relevant theory and practice. This course is delivered either on a full or part time basis with the latter also available as an online option which would suit people who already work in the floristry industry and are not able to attend classes in person. The facilities available in college are second to none with spacious classrooms and cooler, the teaching team are friendly but professional (including those who are not actually teaching you on your course) and can be contacted via college email at any time but can sometimes only reply at certain times as all the tutors teach several other classes at a time ( but you are advised of your best contact time). Learning materials and course information is available 24/7 on the college VLE as the college is very proactive at using printed materials as sparingly as possible. Throughout the college there is a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere from your fellow students and also other staff and principal who can often be seen around the college. The library is well stocked with subject specific books, journals and computers and staff are very accommodating and willing to obtain specific titles if required. There are plenty of catering facilities available across the college complex with varied menus. Vending machines are also located across campus. I would recommend not just this course but any of the floristry courses offered by this college as I am sure they will be run to the same high standards by these award winning tutors

Floral design at Myerscough College (Preston)

by Anon - May 2008

The first year you feel like you're getting you money's worth with the great teaching and all the flowers you get to use but in the second year it goes a little bit downhill and is way more theory and business than floristry which was a little bit disapointing. I felt it would have been better structured if the thoery and floral design ellements were more evenly spread out rather than all on one year.

Facilities

The facilities at Myerscough are excellent especially the range of floral design books available to student.

Student life

The tutors are great at inpiring you to discover your own personal style. Outside of the class room there are lots of opportunites to meet up with classmates and relax and have fun

The only HE course in this field in the UK

I have been able to carry over what I have learned to further my interests in the field. It has given me considerably more confidence in my knowledge of this area as well. The pace is relatively intensive as there is a lot to learn in a short space of time - relevant to part time version. I was a complete beginner to the horticultural aspect of the course and had no knowledge or interest in that side of things. Naturally it helps to have some previous knowledge - as I found with the animal modules. However, I have left the course with an enthusiasm for plants and gardening and the outdoors I NEVER had before. The teachers passion and enthusiasm is catching and very motivating. You can progress but only in other subjects as this is the highest educational level of a course in this specific field in the UK which is a shame. The course teaches some fantastic practical knowledge that I now find invaluable.
