Do NOT Be Fooled. LCCM is a poor, awful sinking ship.

To any new students thinking of going to LCCM do not be fooled. You should know that in January 2018 the company went BANKRUPT and was cheaply taken over by an uninspiring corporation 'Global University System. Students have to complain about getting drinking water. classes are constantly cancelled and moved about whenever a tutor needs. I've been in a class for 7 weeks and not had my tutor at all except some anonymous deputy tutor steps in, consequently the teaching is all over the place. Musical equipment is really shoddy and poor and we don't even have one acoustic piano in the entire institution ! Its a joke and id be laughing if I hadn't already paid to study this place. and they simply don't bother maintain their equipment I could get 2 tree branches from the street and they in better condition than some of the drumsticks they loan out here. information on the website about ur exams is useless and incorrect about what u should submit and no one seems to update this! Payment is a BIG issue here. there are so many students who are owed money for refunds (I'm talking thousands of pounds) yet queries are directed to some great big anonymous corporate finance department. This is awful. and Credit Control threatening to kick students out for issues with payment is very, very stressful. I heard even the teachers have problem getting paid ! is no surprise a lot of the good teachers are leaving! Do NOT be fooled by the shiny new building. The sheer cost and desperation to get this place is what made the college Bankruptin the first place. and now, Year on year, the college is insolvent - having to pay off heavy debts year on year. this results in serious cost cutting accross the board. it is partly a dangerous building site with rooms unfinished and a brand new performance venue that was promised no one knows what is happening. even the basic student work area is a crammed, noisy intrusive environment with people eating and singing loudly and very few desks or chairs (hard uancomfortable desks) you cannot do any work or concentrate here, and students even having to sit on floor. there is ONE computer for the entire college to print out their work (and I am not kidding) There is no student common room - (unless they think this work area is the common room) except a dingy tiny little boxy room which seats three chairs. the place is a joke and id be laughing if I hadn't already paid to study this place. do yourself a favour, save your money and study somewhere else. P.S yes i apologise for my bad grammar, English is not my first language. But more importasnly is my experience of this college.

Awful Place

LCCM is having some serious monetary problems and one of the co-founders has even recently jumped ship! Tutors just cancel lessons left right and centre and then re-arrange a 'catch-up' lesson when it suits themselves (on a different day when not all students can attend due to work commitments or having another class at that time), or they just ditch a whole module that they are supposed to be teaching half-way through the term because they have gigs or other work that is more important to them outside of LCCM. You can email a tutor a question regarding your course or exam resits...and they don't bother to reply! They just ignore your email! There is a lack of commitment from tutors and a bit of a 'I really don't care' attitude I am here because I have bills to pay. One tutor even said as much during a class which isn't what students want to hear...even if it's true! There was a thing that LCCM were doing before christmas, asking students to write a good review for them and post it publicly and the best review would win a £50 voucher (so don't believe all the good reviews you read, also some of the reviews on here I have noticed have been written by ex-students who now actually work administratively for LCCM)...well I don't want £50...I want a good course and to be taught by tutors who give a s**t and turn up to class and who don't cancel lessons on a whim! A whole week of lessons was missed right after christmas....we were told not to come in...and still all these weeks later nothing has been arranged for us to catch up with the week of missed classes?! There is rowing on the student server regarding tuition fees and students wanting a refund etc. It's all just a depressing mess at LCCM and the Principal should have some serious talks with the tutors before hiring them about how committed they are to teaching part-time. It's all good and well tutors telling us that the Principal likes to hire gigging/working musician's but what has to be remembered is that students are paying a lot of money to study at degree level and we deserve some respect too and some thought.

Songwriting Course – Creative Musicianship
by YL - January 2015

The HNC songwriting course is good for those who has some musical knowledge and own characteristics, music theory & logic are taught systematically, while songwriting techniques are not spoon-fed but rather tailor-made to your need. Big variety of music can be played in the school: rock/ blues/ soul/ jazz/ latin/ funk/ drum n bass....good choice if you don't want to learn only one single kind of music, & good place to meet other fellow instrumentalists for your future career

Best Thing I've Done In A Long Time

by Anotherguitar - January 2015

I auditioned for a place at LCCM on a Friday afternoon in November 2013. They control their own admissions, and I had an offer of a place on their new one year CertHE (guitar) course on the following Monday. Then I just had to wait until the following October to start. I did some free online courses in jazz improv and music production to help pass the time. Now in my second term, it?s everything I knew it would be ? I?ve been here before on a couple of evening/weekend courses. Expect to work hard; it?s not a free ride. They tell you this at the induction meeting on the first day. But it is more fun than anyone has the right to expect. The teaching is focused and the people are fantastic - tutors, fellow students, and the friendly office staff who all appear to be LCCM graduates and willingly give help with harmony and theory questions as well as room bookings and photocopying. Each term ends with a public performance in a London venue. You are assessed on your contribution to the band performance, not on your guitar hero technique. Our first performance was to about 250 people at Cargo in Shoreditch. It occurred to me as I stood on the stage that the proportion of musicians in the audience was (a lot) higher than the average. Better make it a good one then!

Great place to develop

The college was flexible enough to give me a grounding in studio and digital production as well as the music industry itself while significantly developing my instrument skills. So a great place to develop all the skills I have needed to become an A&R person and artist manager.
