Key Counselling Academy is a not for profit Community Interest Company. We have been providing accredited counselling training since 2005, and our courses are on the Ofqual (QCF) framework. Our courses carry credits that can be used to gain higher level learning at University should you wish to gain a masters degree or similar.
We are a registered provider with ABC awards and apt awards. We also provide teacher training qualifications, and have a stepping stone approach, should you wish to join us and teach on any of our courses, once you are qualified.
On successful completion of our accredited Diploma, you will be qualified to work in private practice, NHS, or any other organisation/agency and can become a member of BACP. There are no actual exams on any of the courses, as your learning is assessed throughout.
We provide courses, from the beginning level 2 foundation through to the Diploma level which is the qualified status level, as well as specialised training in CBT and a Diploma in counselling children.
We also provide up to date one/two day workshops/training that allow you to learn other specialist ways of working, that add to your existing knowledge and skills. These can be attended either during or after any of your training with us, which will help you specialise in specific areas should you wish to do so.
The level 2 will provide you with all of the skills a counsellor uses, and you will learn an overview of 4 different theories that counsellors use. This is a good course to attend to improve your communication with others.
The level 3 skills course will provide you with integrative learning, of Person Centred, CBT and Psychodynamic approaches and techniques. At this level, you will learn how to manage a 30 minute counselling session, as well as gaining personal development. This course opens up employment opportunities for key working, support work, team/supervisory posts.
The Diploma level is an integrative approach, with Transactional Analysis & Gestalt theories and techniques.
You will learn a range of interventions, from music/art to sand tray therapy and learn how to work holistically with diversity and multi disciplined approaches. We teach you how to work with issues that our clients bring to sessions, so that you become a safe, competent, reflective practitioner and are able to join BACP.
Our tutors are all qualified counsellors and/or psychotherapists, and most have trained with us, therefore not only have the experience of working therapeutically with clients, but have the experience of being a student on our courses, so are able to support you from an experiential position, understanding the learning process.
We can provide placement opportunities for our trainees on the Diploma level via our Health & Harmony low cost counselling agency. These hours can count toward your 100 hours supervised placement that is required to successfully complete the Diploma qualification.
