Overview

The Maria Montessori Institute offers stimulating courses on the human being at the different stages of childhood: 0-3, 3-6 and 6-12 years. Our Diploma and Certificate courses offer comprehensive study and preparation to work children of these ages. They are also useful to parents, carers and anyone interested in child development.

The Maria Montessori Institute has been in existence for over 60 years, and is the only Institute in the UK affiliated to the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) that was founded by Maria Montessori to uphold the high standards, which she insisted upon. The AMI Diploma is recognised all over the world.

Facilities

The lecture and practice rooms at Baker Street are bright and sunny. There is also a small library. The common room is very comfortable, with a kitchen area where students can have lunch, snacks, tea and coffee or just relax between lectures. Near the Institute are the cafes and restaurants of Baker Street while London's majestic Regent's Park is right by.

On the Hampstead premises is the famed Maria Montessori Children’s House for children aged between two and a half and six years old, plus one of the few Montessori Elementary schools in the country, for children between six and 12 years old.

Student story

My name is Poonam Jhaveri and I completed my AMI 3-6 diploma course at the Maria Montessori Institute in London. When I started the course, I was informed that it would be very intensive and require a lot of time and effort and yes this is true. However, I enjoyed both, the theory and the practical side of it. I found both Montessori's vision and the tutors themselves very inspiring and liked the focus on quality rather than quantity in terms of the teachings. The Montessori course changed the way I think about children – they are so inquisitive and full of potential – characteristics which we need to cultivate further.
