Genie Training Academy (GTA) is a part of the registered charity Genie Networks.  We provide high quality training and qualifications with any profit made going directly to support the services Genie Networks provides to families.
GTA is passionate about improving access for Deaf/Hard of Hearing people through communication and awareness.  Our teachers are Deaf and have a wealth of knowledge about Deaf culture and British Sign Language.  They are all qualified teachers and assessors of British Sign language and have a combined experience of over 60 years of teaching.
It is estimated that 1 in 6 people in the UK have been diagnosed with hearing loss and therefore awareness of communication tactics such as lip reading, English modification and Sign Language are invaluable skills for you to possess; in addition to being a lot of fun to learn!

Student story

"I'm amazed at where learning BSL has taken me".  Jules started learning BSL with Genie out of interest and initially wanted to complete level 1. However, she was soon hooked and continued learning, completing level 4 last summer. At the 2013 Signature awards, Jules was surprised to be awarded the "North West learner of the year". Since then she has completed more courses with Genie including Modifying English Texts and Deaf and Deafblind awareness. She now works teaching deaf children; her dream job. She hopes to continue her studies with level 6 when returning from maternity leave but for now enjoys dropping in to sign, stay and play with her son.
