Operating across three campuses in Peterlee and Houghall in Durham, the college has a wide range of facilities including a 220-seat theatre, professional music studios, sports hall, equestrian centre, small animal care unit, art department, health and beauty salon, catering restaurant, working farm and many other facilities.

East Durham College - Peterlee

The Peterlee campus includes a 220 seat theatre, TV studio, Mac editing suites, art studio, beauty salon, sports hall, restaurant, construction workshops, travel agents, football pitches, gym, large social spaces/canteen and much more.

East Durham College - Houghall

Specialising in land-based studies, the Houghall campus includes a small animal care unit, equestrian centre, dog kennels, working farm, commercial garden centre, hoticulture lab, dog grooming salon, floristry studios and social/informal break-out learning space.

Tech Academy - Peterlee

Specialist centre made for construction and engineering training.


East Durham College has three sites - the Peterlee Campus at Willerby Grove, the Technical Academy at Peterlee's South West Industries Estate and the Houghall Campus near Durham City.

Fees & funding

Tuition and Exam Fees

Good news if you're under 19 years old on or before 31st August - studying with us is FREE (criteria apply and excludes full cost courses).

If you're aged 19 to 23 and studying on a level 2 or level 3 course, and don't already have a level 2 or level 3 qualification, your course may also be free. Student Services can advise if you qualify for fees remission.

Advanced Learning Loans

Aged 19+ and thinking about studying a Level 3, 4 or 5 qualification? Then the good news is that you may qualify for an Advanced Learning Loan.

How to enrol

To apply for a course at EDC, you should do so as soon as you can. Some courses fill up quickly, so it's important to register your interest as soon as possible.

You can apply to the college online by visiting this page, by post by printing off the application form or you can apply by phone by calling 0191 518 8222.

You are also welcome to apply in person - simply visit the Houghall or Peterlee campus and we can help you complete your application.
