  • Creative Short Courses at Nottingham Trent University Overview Image

"Whether you’re a beginner or a professional, our short courses provide professional training so that you learn in an enjoyable environment. "

Nottingham Trent University is at the heart of creative education in the city.  We’ve been teaching original and innovative courses since 1843, making us one of the UK’s most well-established creative universities.

Beginners, professionals, portfolio builders and hobbyists can attend a short course and become part of this inspiring environment.  Meet other adult learners who share your interests, and achieve your own personal and professional ambitions.

Our short courses run during the evenings, Saturdays and summer holidays.  They fit around your daytime commitments and can support current or future studies.

On a short course you’ll experience the same industry-standard facilities and expert tutors and technicians that our degree students benefit from, all conveniently taking place in the city centre.

We aim to introduce you to new ways of working so that you can achieve great things. Our courses are ideal if you’re:

  • exploring your skills in a favourite discipline
  • thinking about changing career or enhancing your CV
  • building a portfolio for college or work
  • already in industry and in need of a refresher.

Class sizes are limited so an early booking is recommended.

Whilst most of our short courses are aimed at adult learners, we do also run a summer programme for students aged 15 – 17.

Get hands on with 3D projects in our extensive workshops, where you can explore real design briefs, learn how to create beautiful scale models and experiment with materials and equipment.  There are also intensive courses in history, drawing and image making.

Whether you’re a beginner or more experienced writer, these courses will help you find inspiration.  Start your own novel, create a collection of poetry, or begin working on a new play with like-minded people while being supported by experienced tutors.

Our practical courses can improve your skills in pattern making, fashion knitwear and even tutu making.  For professionals there are courses in software skills and presentation techniques, and explorations of how to design with emerging e-textiles.

Or, attend an illustration class and turn your story into something ready to publish. These popular courses are ideal for anyone thinking of a career change.

These courses are ideal if you’re looking to build a portfolio of design work, considering interior design as a future career, or simply interested in redesigning your own home. They’ll give you an insight into the world of interior design and inspire you with the confidence to present your own schemes.

Our popular courses in CAD can help you and your business achieve great things.  You can also get CAD certified and add new skills to your CV.  If you prefer something more workshop-based them our furniture making course will introduce you to a host of woodworking techniques.
