Welcome to the Centre for Strategy and Communication.

What we do

At the Centre, we specialise in face-to-face training that can be applied to real-life situations. Our open programme courses cover a range of topics, including management, communication, administration, personal effectiveness, and writing skills.

Each course has been carefully written by industry experts, and our team of experienced trainers are well versed in applying their subject areas to a whole range of industries.

Who we are

Established in 1996, the Centre was a place for charities and not-for-profit organisations to develop their skills. Now, the Centre welcomes delegates from both these backgrounds, as well as corporate clients and individuals looking to improve their skills.

Based on Old Street in central London, our purpose built training rooms are friendly and fun, giving you the space to develop and learn. We also provide fresh lunches, as well as tea, coffee, sweets, and our famous ice cream break!

Our approach

Here at the Centre, we provide tools and techniques that will improve how you work.

We think it’s important that:

  • Training is in small groups so that every individual gets one-to-one attention
  • Learning should be challenging: intellectually and creatively
  • Different learning styles are embraced
  • Learning should be motivational, relevant and help delegates achieve their goals
  • Learning is more effective when it’s evaluated and supported on an on-going basis

We are passionate about communication and diversity and place both in the heart of what we do. All of our courses contain practical sessions, group discussions, theory and coaching to ensure everyone in the room has a chance to really engage with the training.

With this in mind the Centre has built up a broad range of communication courses to suit every level and role.

Whether you are a manager that has inherited web writing as part of your role or your entire team needs to practice writing publications, we have the experienced writing trainers and the courses to support you.

Personal effectiveness

In the workplace it's important that we work to our greatest potential, to increase productivity and to ensure we remain happy in our role. Sometimes a little boost is needed; perhaps to give us greater confidence in our role; to give us the assertiveness to speak up in meetings and appraisals; or to better manage our time and workload. This is why the Centre has created a range of personal effectiveness courses, in order to boost your confidence and skills in your role and your abilities.


A well prepared and supported administrator can make the difference between an organised team and a shambolic office. However the pressure of so many conflicting priorities can be overwhelming and just reacting to incoming calls and emails can seem like a never ending task. That's why the Centre has developed a collection of courses specifically designed to maximise the productivity and reduce the stress created by such eclectic jobs. All our administration courses are packed with tools and techniques that help delegates manage a busy workload and create confident and effective administrators.

Student life

Keep your energy levels up

All our delegates are welcome to arrive a little early and tuck into a free breakfast and enjoy a hot drink. Throughout the day, you'll also have access to vegetarian sweets and plenty of healthy snacks to keep you going! At lunchtime, enjoy your freshly prepared lunch and chat with your coursemates. Later on in the afternoon, you can make the most of our famous ice cream breaks - whatever the weather outside!

Keep your mind awake

We make sure that our delegates have regular breaks, as this allows you to be more open to learning. We also have a selection of toys in the reception area, from puzzles to lego! 

Keep everyone included

The Centre is proud to be an inclusive training provider, our gender neutral toilets and disabled access ensure that everyone gets the chance to learn. We are also able to provide vegan/gluten free/dairy free snacks - just let us know about your dietary requirements in advance!

Our training suite is at 140 Old Street in London and open from 9:15am – 5pm Monday to Friday.

Our closest tube station is Old Street, which is on the Northern line. Take subway exit 3, head towards Barbican and continue down the road for a few minutes.

We recommend learners arrive by 9.45am so you can sign-in at reception and order your lunch.

We are situated on the third floor and have lift access. If you have any special access requirements please inform us in advance so we can accommodate your needs.
