Course description

Visual Merchandising and Display (Online Short Course):

After learning the basic principles of window dressing and visual merchandising, you'll use the No Need 4 Mirrors (NN4M) Fashion Window Design programme to understand the skill of creating great windows and the science behind visual merchandising. You will be given access to NN4M’s window design programme for the duration of the course, and will also receive a one-to-one introduction to the program. At the end of the course, you will have built up an impressive portfolio of fashion window designs which can be printed for display or saved to an online portfolio.

The course includes:

  • Basic principles of window dressing and visual merchandising
  • Store visual merchandising and product presentation methods
  • Building and creating your own Window Designs using the NN4M program
  • Current trends in the Retail Industry in London
  • Merchandise selection and accessories
  • Customer flow and the importance of store layout
  • Colour, POS and lighting
  • Mannequin handling and styling

Our e-learning experience differs depending on which course you choose. All courses include weekly chat sessions with your tutor and other students on the course, which are conducted through an interactive seminar (called Wimba). The chat sessions will include text and/or voice/video chat, as well as an opportunity to 'share' your tutor's desktop so that s/he can navigate you through websites, powerpoint presentations and other work.

You will also be required to undertake weekly assignments between sessions. This can be downloaded from a special website (a Wiki), where you will also be able to upload your work during the week. You'll be expected to dedicate between one - two hours a week to these self-study projects. A full technical specification is listed in the 'Materials' tab above.

Additional entry requirements

Learners should have an interest in the subject area and a desire to learn but no previous experience is required.
