Course description

The Wonder Room:

The wonder rooms, or cabinet of curiosities, were small collections of extraordinary objects that became popular in the 18th Century, celebrating the act of collecting for its own sake and telling stories about the wonders and oddities of the natural world and beyond. Many artists and makers are collectors. Pop artist Peter Blake is an avid collector of kitsch pop memorabilia and art curios, and has amassed personal cornucopia that help to inform his creative decisions. This fun course will begin with a series of drawing exercises based on the bizarre and wonderful collections housed across Liverpool’s museum collections. These drawings will be developed through lino and risograph printmaking and developed into a bespoke handmade artist book which will be exhibited for sale at the end of the course to celebrate these eccentric collections. Please note some drawing exercises will take place on location outside of the Tate gallery.
