SPORT - LEVEL 2: This Level 2 First Extended Certificate in Sport is a one year, full time, work related course aimed at students who wish to consider a career in the sports or leisure industries. During the course you will undertake visits, exercises, and practical sports experience. You will be expected to participate in a range of challenging sports and classroom based sessions and gain underpinning knowledge related to working in the sports industry. The course is suitable for school leavers and adults who are interested in studying sport with a view to a career in this industry. The course is practical and is based on work related assignments. During the course you will study:

• Anatomy and Physiology for Sports
Plus a choice of optional specialist units:
• The Mind and Sports Performance
• The Sports Performer in Action
• Training for Personal Fitness
• Leading Sports Activities
• Promotion and Sponsorship in Sport
• Lifestyle and Well-being
• Running a Sports Event
• The Sport and Active Leisure Industry
• Profiling Sports Performance
All students aged 16 -19 are required to study Functional English and maths qualifications or GCSE maths and English if not already awarded a grade C/4 or higher in these subjects. If you have a grade D/3 at GCSE you will study maths and/or English GCSE.
Students with a grade lower than D/3 will work towards GCSE through the study of maths & English Functional Skills.
Students aged 19+ are strongly encouraged to take relevant maths and English qualifications to support progression into further or higher education, training or employment.
Additional entry requirements
4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or higher including Maths or English OR a Level 1 related qualification PLUS grade D/3 or higher in Maths or English.
