This course will be principally classroom-based, with the tutor sharing his 25 years of research into the repairs, restoration and re-ordering of Norwich Cathedral in the period from the late 18th century to about 1900. This will largely be done with the use of PowerPoint presentations, this being the best way to deliver the hundreds of pictures discovered in the course of the research, but at the same time will involve discussion about the issues of conservation and restoration. We will make at least one visit to the cathedral to see in practice what we have been talking about in the classroom.
By the end of the course I should be able to: identify some of the features of Norwich Cathedral when visiting it; give examples of changing cultural values during the past two centuries; list some of the main archaeological research techniques; describe Norwich Cathedral's changing role within the community.
No skills or experience needed. This course is suitable for beginners and improvers.
