Life Drawing [REF2764G]: Overview
Try life drawing for the first time or be inspired to take it up again - You will be amazed at what you can achieve in a short period of time. In this friendly, supportive mixed ability group you can learn from other people in the class as well as from the tutor whilst discovering your own style.
What will we cover?
Subjects covered during the course will include dealing with the basic principles of life drawing, using measuring techniques, plotting negative spaces and learning composition. Also ‘gesture drawing’ will be covered. These are short studies of the figure, drawn rapidly to capture the essence of the pose. Throughout the course you will be encouraged to develop your own style.
Learning goals are: To recognise simplified geometric forms within the body. To demonstrate an understanding of the body shape and its proportions. To learn and develop quick drawing techniques. To enjoy the drawing experience and have fun.
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
The course is for all abilities: both beginners and improvers. If you have not drawn the human figure before then there is no need to worry as full support is given throughout the entire course.
As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
Drawing paper - size A1/A2 and an A1/A2 flip chart or other cheap paper is needed for quick drawings. Charcoal of mixed sizes, pencils, putty rubber/eraser, bulldog clips or masking tape for the board. Other items that you may wish to use later in the course could include inks and pastels, although these are optional and can be discussed during the class. Black paper and white chalk/pastel may be needed in a later class; however you will be advised beforehand if this is the case.
What can I do when I finish the course?
Further life drawing classes or if you wish to put a portfolio together for entrance to an art college then this is a distinct advantage. You may wish to progress on to other courses in painting, drawing, illustration and sculpture. This class offers you the opportunity to meet like-minded people and make friends.
