Professional presentation is a vital skill for any forensic scientist. Learning how to assemble and process data while being articulate about your findings will be central to your learning with us.
Key subject areas include: Principles and Applications of Science - understand the key science concepts in biology, chemistry and physics; Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques - be introduced to quantitative laboratory techniques, calibration, chromatography, calorimetry and laboratory safety, which are relevant to the chemical and life science industries; Science Investigation Skills - understand the stages involved and the skills needed in planning a scientific investigation: how to record, interpret, draw scientific conclusions and evaluate; Forensic Investigation Procedures in Practice - develop techniques in collecting, analysing and reporting chemical, physical and biological evidence during forensic investigations; Applications of Criminology; Criminal Investigation Procedures in Practice - develop techniques in collecting, analysing and reporting chemical, physical and biological evidence during forensic investigations and Applications of Criminal and Forensic Psychology.
Alongside these specific aspects of your course you’ll study English and maths and take part in GAP work placement to develop your skills and get you ready for employment. After this course, you will be all set for higher education, with an Extended Sciene Degree here at College or an Honours programme at university. You may also be able to find entry-level employment in a laboratory or science-related industry.
You should have 4 GCSEs (A*-C/9-4), including English, maths and double science or a relevant Level 2 Diploma. You will be required to attend a Course Introduction Meeting.
