Level 3 AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting (Distance Learning) - Double Unit in Ethics for Accountants & Spreadsheets for Accounting (AQ2016):

The AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting provides progression opportunities to further AAT qualifications and a choice of great careers, including progress onto the AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting and a route to HE. Benefits associated with this Level 3 qualification include UCAS points. The Advanced Diploma in accounting qualification also provides the foundation skills required to support the establishment of a healthy business. This qualification is suitable for those who have completed the AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting, or are at a more intermediate level and looking to develop their skills in accounting. The Advanced Diploma in Accounting is also suited to those who have already started working in finance and who have a need and desire to attain formal recognition of their skills. The AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting covers a range of complex accounting tasks, including maintaining cost accounting records and the preparation of reports and returns. Students will learn and master financial processes, including accounting principles and concepts, advanced bookkeeping, final accounts, VAT issues in business, management accounting costing techniques, ethical practices for accountants and spreadsheet software skills. This qualification comprises six mandatory units. This unit is a double unit covering Ethics for Accountants and Spreadsheets for Accounting, this unit ensures that students have an excellent understanding of the principles of ethical working, how to apply a systematic approach to ethical problems that they may encounter, and how to take action in relation to unethical behaviour and illegal acts it will further develop the skills and knowledge required to integrate spreadsheet use within the other Level 3 accountancy subjects, accurately analysing and presenting information in an unambiguous way. Completing this unit will develop skills in the use of formulas, functions, data analysis and presentation.

Each unit of the full qualification is studied and assessed separately and each unit may take up to 12 weeks. Successful completion of all units will result in an Advanced Diploma in Accounting (Level 3) being awarded by the AAT. The course is delivered through the colleges E Learning providers online learning environment and supported by regular contact from the course administrator. Study text books and online resources are supplied upon commencement and supplemented by email and telephone support from qualified tutors, as well as individual 1:1 tutorial upon request. Four units are assessed individually in end-of-unit computer-based assessments, with Ethics and Spreadsheets for accounting being assessed by synoptic assessment, sat towards the end of the qualification, which draws on and assesses knowledge and understanding from across the qualification. Exams are taken at the college by way of computer based assessment and regular exam dates are available with both daytime and evening sittings. Synoptic assessment availability is specified by the AAT and details will be provided upon commencement of the course.

Skills developed through this qualification can lead to employment as an accounts assistant, an accounts payable and expenses supervisor, an accounts payable clerk, an audit trainee, a credit controller, a finance officer, an indirect tax manager, an insolvency executive, a payroll supervisor, a senior bookkeeper, and a tax assistant.

Additional entry requirements

Applicants must have achieved a Level 2 accounting or book-keeping qualification, or be able to demonstrate a competent knowledge and understanding of double-entry book-keeping and basic accounting functions. Candidates will be required to attend an interview with the course administrator prior to commencing on the course and demonstrate an appropriate standard of Literacy and Numeracy by way of a short assessment. Some elements of the course include a significant amount of writing and literacy skills are as critical as numeracy skills. Basic IT skills will also be required.
