This qualification aims to raise awareness of dementia and how to care for people suffering with dementia.
There are 5 mandatory units that are required to be successfully completed and they are:
- Understand how to work in end of life care
- Understand how to provide support to manage pain and discomfort
- End of life care and dementia
- Understanding the role of the care worker in time of death
- Understand loss and grief in end of life care
Learners must successfully demonstrate their achievement of all learning outcomes and assessment criteria of the units.
Through guided learning using the student support material, one-to-one sessions with the tutor, group tutorials and independent study.
Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to:
-NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Mental Health Awareness
-NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Working in Mental Health
-NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care
-NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care
-NVQ in Health and Social Care
-VRQ in Equality and Diversity
-VRQ in Dementia
There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification; however, learners might find it helpful if they have already achieved a Level 1 qualification. Learners must be 16 or have officially have left school to undertake this qualification.
