Course description

Level 2 Intermediate Web Design:

On this course, you will learn to design and create superb web pages and put them on the internet using the latest Adobe package of Dreamweaver and Photoshop. This course develops the skills and knowledge achieved on the Level 1 Basic Web Design course. Use of Cascading Style Sheets frameworks such as Bootstrap and Client Side Scripting, using JavaScript is widely covered. The increasing use of mobile devices to access the internet requires websites to be responsive - learn the different approaches to create mobile friendly sites.

This course builds on the skills developed in Level 1 and introduces features such as Flash, Cascading Style Sheets and preparation of images. A brief introduction to PHP is also included. Use of Photoshop for optimisation of graphics is covered together with building forms and an introduction to Server Side Scripting. More advanced features of Dreamweaver are explored including use of Library Objects and Templates. The course also introduces Content Management Systems, notably WordPress. The course finishes with an assignment requiring the design and build of a multi-page web site. Students should have access to a copy of Dreamweaver and a suitable graphics package at home.

Many students have set themselves up in business as either full-time or part-time web designers. Many are also involved with web technology as part of their jobs and this gives them a good grounding in the skills necessary. Successful completion leads to the award of a Level 2 City and Guilds Certificate. This course opens up a host of career opportunities.

Additional entry requirements

This is the middle course in the series and is a Level 2 course. Students starting out on web page design often decide to learn to use Dreamweaver first. This is a fast-paced course and applicants should be experienced with a range of PC software and comfortable with using file systems. Students should have prior knowledge of Dreamweaver as the course builds on the skills developed in Level 1, which should have been completed within the last 12 months.
