Course description

Level 2 Award in Introduction to Counselling Skills:

A course for people who need initial counselling skills to help and support others. It won't teach students to be counsellors, but it may help them to decide if they want to train as one. Certificated by the Counselling and Psychotherapy Awarding Body, it covers basic listening and reflection.

By the end of the course you will be able to

  • Identify the "core counselling conditions"
  • Use basic skills of reflection
  • Use facilitative questioning
  • Understand the importance of feelings in counselling
  • Identify the elements of ethical counselling practice
  • Understand when and how to make referrals.

Additional entry requirements

In general, the understanding of human situations is more important than formal educational attainments, so this is an open entry course. But since sensitivity to language is also important, students for whom English is a second language must be very fluent in both speaking and understanding. If you have any doubt about your level of competence in English, please speak to the tutor. Note too that this course is not recommended to those who have recently (< 1 year) experienced a major crisis such as bereavement, who are currently experiencing mental health problems, or who are currently addicted to alcohol or other drugs (including prescription drugs). It is important to disclose this to the tutor at the beginning of the course. Such disclosures will be treated in confidence and additional support, or an alternative study programme, may be suggested. Students undertaking any counselling themselves should not enroll on this course.

by patricia - April 2019

The coding for beginners was an excellent course. It made me understand the concepts about coding and how it works. I have enjoyed so much Dalia's lessons (tutor).I've liked the resources that she uses and the structure of the course. Also, she has a fantastic approach respecting the different needs of each student. Furthermore, Dalia made me feel confident that coding is something that I can learn! It has empowered me to go further and even considering about become a web developer.
