Course description

International Year One in Business:

Business is actually an incredibly broad field of study, and can encompass everything from Accounting to Investing to Marketing. Studying Business will give you an insight into a wide range of topics, and help you begin an interesting career in industry. This pathway course will allow you to progress directly to the second year of a degree in a related field.

Personal development activities

Culture and activities We’ll help you have a hugely beneficial cultural and social experience, as well as encourage you to explore different activities, crafts and more. You might learn about the local history and culture, or develop your wider subject knowledge and understanding of related industries.

Digital and employability skills

Outside of your academic learning, you’ll also be taught skills that will be useful at university and later in life. You'll receive help in making the most of your creativity, improving your communication and developing your digital skills. We’ll also help you build a CV, portfolio and online profile to empower you after you graduate.

Social network

Forming a strong social network can be very beneficial, even if it’s just to discuss and debate ideas. Not only will you get to know your classmates, you’ll also have opportunities to join professional bodies, and network with students and industry professionals: something that can be really helpful when you go on to start a career.

Modules for 2 terms

  • English for Academic Purposes
  • Entrepreneurship and Business Development
  • Financial Reporting
  • Management Accounting
  • Quantitative Methods for Business

You’ll also study a module in one of the following pathways, based on your progression degree subject:

  • Accounting and Finance pathway
  • Management Accounting and Financial Analysis Business pathway
  • Marketing in the Operational Context

Modules for 2.5 and 3 terms

You’ll also study these modules if your English level is below UKVI IELTS 5.5:

  • English for Academic Study 3
  • Independent and Collaborative Study
  • Reading and Writing 3
  • Speaking and Listening 3

Or if you have at least UKVI IELTS 5.5, or do not need to take an IELTS test, you’ll study these modules:

  • Critical Reading, Writing and Reasoning for Higher Education
  • Independent and Collaborative Study
  • Preparatory Statistics
  • UK Society and Culture

Modules for 3.5 and 4 terms

  • English for Academic Study 2
  • Reading and Writing 2
  • Speaking and Listening 2
  • Study Skills Preparation

This course leads to the following degrees:

  • BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance
  • BA (Hons) Business Management and Economics
  • BA (Hons) Business and Human Resource Management

Additional entry requirements

Academic Requirements: Good high school grades or equivalent, with relevant subjects. English language: For 2 terms: UKVI IELTS score is 5.5 (no less than 5.0 in any skill); For 2.5 terms: UKVI IELTS score is 5.0 (no less than 4.5 in any skill); For 3 terms : UKVI IELTS 4.5 (no less than 4.0 in any skill) For 3.5 and 4 terms: UKVI IELTS score is 4.0 in all skills.
