The aim of this course is to investigate the archaeological monument of Stonehenge. Stonehenge is one of Britain's most iconic and mysterious monuments. Who built it, how and why? A century on from when the monument was given to the nation, we explore these questions in this day school as we investigate the prehistoric archaeology of this World Heritage Site. Everyone welcome; no previous knowledge assumed.
By the end of the course I should be able to: Describe the different stages in the development of Stonehenge and when they occurred; Discuss where the stones that form it may have come from; Briefly describe what connections may have existed between the different prehistoric monuments in the Salisbury Plain area; Briefly describe the antiquarian interest in Stonehenge and how the monument came to be given to the nation.
No skills or experience needed. This course is suitable for beginners and improvers.
