Course description

Healthcare Practice - Fundamental Care Skills GPT201 (Nationally Accredited) for Carers, Care Support Workers, Healthcare Assistants:

Elearning (online) with an 4-week period to complete. You can stop and start the course whenever and whereever you wish. We can extend the finish date on request if you would like longer to complete the course.

The course provides a useful “stepping-stone” into the healthcare profession and covers the key aspects of working in a carer / care support worker / healthcare assistant role in a variety of healthcare settings.

Topics include: accountability within a hospital, care home or domiciliary care role. Effective communication (between staff and staff to patient is also covered, along with the use of appropriate documentation including the completion of an OBS chart. Hygiene and IPC relevant specific to this role is also covered. The course looks at essential tests and measurements, instrumentation for these tests and how to perform them. Video presentations supplement most modules. Other topics include Anatomy and Physiology, Practical Caring Skills and the Psychological approach to caring. A detailed look also at Pressure Care and Management. Finally the course looks at handling medication.

The course has between 3 and 6 Multiple Choice Questions at the end of each module. You can immediately re-sit the questions for each module if required.

The course is supported with an extensive range of resource material which is free to download at any time during the course. A Home Study Pack is an integral part of the course structure. On completion you will immediately be able to download a pass certificate. (Accredited certificate will be posted to you within 8 weeks).

The nationally recognised and accredited certificate (awarded by the Open College Network (OCN Credit4Learning)) can be added to any other existing credit values (cumulative credits), and these may also count towards other similar college or university courses.
