Course description

Gilding - Introduction: This course is a general introduction to gilding and frame restoration including making impressions and recreating damaged or missing ornaments. You can work on your own frame which you can restore in class. You can also practice on a small prepared board which will be supplied by the tutor. The first session will focus on how to repair a damaged antique frame and prepare the surface before re-gilding. You will learn how to: � Create moulds to replace damaged/missing ornaments � Clean an antique gilded frame � Remove/strip non-original paint � Make rabbit-skin glue and gesso During the second session, you will be introduced to the technique of oil gilding using genuine gold leaf or metal leaf. For the last session you will be shown methods to tone and distress new gold to recreate patina to match original. You will also learn to make bole and have the opportunity to try water gilding using bole.

Started career as cartoonist Eagle Girl Robin and drawing live telling stories BBC/ITV childrens progs. before becoming music entertainment staff producer. So it was with trepidation started once more with Life classes at RACC.very rusty seeing all the faults. however tutor is marvellous very accomodating allowing freedom introducing different approaches showing various artist's style etc. and easy with everyone giving simple help and advice. Continuing and also going to try the Portraiture class. Richmond College is excellent.
