Diploma in Digital Marketing (City & Guilds):

This course will give you the skills you need to get a job as a digital marketing assistant or digital marketing manager in an agency or in-house marketing department. Alternatively, many learners set up their own business as a digital marketing consultant having completed the course.

When you have completed the Diploma in Digital Marketing, you will gain a complete all-round knowledge of the use of digital marketing channels in a business environment including a high level of both practical technical skills as well as knowledge of marketing theories which you will be able to immediately apply in real-life situations.

What do I learn?

Over the 15 months of the course, you will learn how to:

  • Use the complete range of social media channels for business (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest)
  • Set up and utilise Google My Business, Google Search Console and Google Analytics
  • Create engaging images and video
  • Use a range of content marketing techniques
  • Optimise website and content for search engine optimisation
  • Design, develop and monitor an optimised WordPress website with themes, plugins and widgets
  • Design and implement email newsletter campaigns
  • Design and launch social media advertising campaigns
  • Measure the use of social media, content marketing, websites and email newsletters

You will also learn:

  • How and why to create buyer personas
  • The stages of the customer journey and what content can be created for each stage of the journey.
  • Theories and practical steps to undertake a marketing audit
  • How and why to do competitor analysis
  • Theories and practical steps to create a marketing strategy

Teaching Methods

The course is taught using a combination of 19 live webinars and 16 detailed, interactive e-learning courses - over 190 hours of learning. The e-learning courses are updated every 6 months and the webinars are updated each time they are run. If you are unable to attend a live webinar, recordings are available. Webinars contain up to date information about changes in digital marketing as well as real-life examples of how we are using the range of channels and supplemental information you will need to answer the assignments.


You are asked to complete 18 assignments and 3 projects during the course to create a portfolio of evidence. The assignments are designed to test both your knowledge and the practical application of what you have learnt. You will be asked to create images, videos, social media updates and other forms of content marketing as well as perform SEO research, competitor research and create a dashboard of measurement of channels.


You will be given individual, bespoke feedback on each of your assignments in a form that works for you. We get to know you and the business you are working with so we can give advice and suggestions on your situation. You have access to unlimited support throughout the period of the course so you can call or email your assessor to talk about the course, the business you are working with, or your career progress in general.

Additional entry requirements

There are no entry requirements as such, except a willingness to learn and an openness to new ideas. It is beneficial if you have a business you can work with to develop your portfolio of evidence. You may use the business you are working for or a friend's business to improve their digital marketing presence. If you don't have a business, some learners set up their own freelance business and use that to answer the assignments. You will need access to basic IT (a computer with Internet access, browser and Word Processor). We teach you to use a range of free tools during the course including image editing, video editing, Hootsuite, MailChimp, WordPress, Google Analytics in addition to the social media channels.
