This qualification is designed for anyone over 18 who uses, or would like to use, helping skills either at work or in a personal capacity. This course is for people who would like to find out about counselling skills. You will study the definition of counselling and developing self-awareness through skills practice. The course introduces approaches and offers opportunities to practice listening skills – empathy, reflecting, paraphrasing, summarising and focussing. The course is for learners who wish to progress towards further counselling qualifications, or learners who wish to study this programme in order to complement other programmes - such as health and social care, children’s care, learning and development, voluntary and community work.
Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to: Level 3 Award in Counselling Skills and Theory programme (leading to diploma / HE courses); Level 2 and 3 qualifications in Health Care or Health and Social Care; Level 2 Award in Mentoring; Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills; Level 2 Certificate in Information, Advice or Guidance or Level 2 and Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools.
On completion, you will receive NCFE Level 2 Award in Helping Skills. You can progress onto Certificate in Counselling Skills Level 3 (leading to Higher Education qualifications).
Learners will be required to participate in group discussions, demonstrate listening skills and present written work at Level 2.
