Cookery - Let's Get Baking [RDF2297G]: Overview
Inspired by the Great British Bake Off? You could be following along! Your tutor will guide you through a range of different baking skills, from cakes and biscuits, to pastry and breads, and you’ll be making tasty treats to take home with you.
What will we cover?
You will learn a range of baking skills and techniques, including different kinds of pastry. The recipes will cover both savoury and sweet items.
The course is largely student-led, with the dishes taught being chosen with the learners’ wishes and tastes in mind, with the goals moving towards areas that are decided upon democratically.
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
This course is suitable for all abilities, from beginners to those with more knowledge and experience of baking. Less experienced or less confident bakers may be encouraged to limit the number of dishes they prepare.
This course is suitable for vegetarians. Although some of the planned recipes may include meat, the tutor will always be able to suggest alternative ingredients.
As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
The course fees do NOT include the cost of ingredients, and you are responsible for bringing your own ingredients to lessons.
You will need to bring all the ingredients set out in the Ingredients list, which will be sent out 1 week before the start of your course.
Bring suitable containers to take food home in. Note, this may be hot food, so the containers should be heat-proof.
Please bring an apron, and tea-towels.
Bring a pen, and your reading glasses (if you use them), so that you can read and make notes about the recipes.
It is important to wear clothes and footwear suitable for a busy, hot kitchen.
What can I do when I finish the course?
Following this course you could progress on to other cookery courses offered at the Centre, all enjoyable, informative and creative. We have a range of cookery and baking courses, so take a look at the brochure or online to see what else is available.
Please do let us know if you have any allergy or food intolerance when you enrol on any one of our cookery courses. This information is important and will ensure the tutor can plan alternative ingredients or recipes where necessary.
