Course description

Arabic - Stage 3 - Term 1 [RDG1139G]: Overview This course is the perfect way to widen your knowledge of vocabulary and grammar on a variety of topics. Emphasis is on communication for use in real life situations. What will we cover? Different topics are covered each term. Typical topics at Stage 3 and Stage 3+ may include: • talking about present, past and future activities; • making plans for holidays and finding out tourist information; • making arrangements and dealing with problems (restaurants, hotels, shops etc). Sessions are lively and varied with goals tailored to individual needs. The emphasis is on speaking and listening, with pair and group activities to maximise opportunities to speak in the language. Reading, writing and essential grammar are also incorporated into the course. Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining? Stage 3 and Stage 3+ are for learners who can hold a simple conversation and follow basic directions and instructions. You will learn to express your likes and dislikes and give simple opinions. You will also use a range of tenses. For guidance on choosing the right course, please complete a self-assessment form (available on the Surrey Adult Learning website and from the Customer Service Team), which will give an indication of the stage you are at in the language. New learners are welcome to join Terms 2 & 3 provided they are the right level for the course. If you have any questions, please ask the Customer Service Team for advice. What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs? Please bring a notepad and pen. A ring-binder for storing handouts is recommended. Some language courses require a course book. This will be discussed at the first session. Course books, if required, typically cost £15 - £30 and can be used for more that one term / year. Learners may also wish to purchase additional study aids such as CDs, workbooks, dictionaries and grammar books, which are optional. What can I do when I finish the course? You can progress to Stage 4 at some Adult Learning Centres. Additional information We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. When you enrol please let us know if you would like to discuss your extra support needs with a member of the Supported Learning Team who will then contact you as soon as possible. If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
