Course description

Advanced Phlebotomy & Cannulation (Peripheral IV Cannulation) (Nationally Accredited):

Delegate must have completed any one or more of the following:
1: Introduction to Phlebotomy Course with Geopace Training
2: Phlebotomy Course with another provider (evidence required)
3: Current or previously practicing phlebotomist (self-statement accepted)

IF YOU HAVE PHLEBOTOMY EXPERIENCE OR PREVIOUS QUALIFICATIONS AND CAN PROVIDE A SELF-STATEMENT TO CONFIRM THIS THEN YOU WILL BE ELIGIBLE TO ENROL ON THIS COURSE

Elearning (online) with an 8 week period to complete.

The course is divided into two parts:

The first part covers all essential aspects of advanced phlebotomy including Geriatric, Neonatal and Infant Phlebotomy, Special Procedures, Tests and Handling Techniques, Specialised Measurements, Point of Care Testing and Advanced Phlebotomy Equipment and how to use it.

The second part of the course covers IV Cannulation (Peripheral Intravenous Cannulation) including Legal & Professional responsibilities, Applicable Anatomy & Physiology, IPC (Infection Prevention Control), When to cannulate (advantages and disadvantages), Equipment and Vein Choice for Cannulation, Full Procedural guides including a video presentation, Contraindications and Potential Complications.

The course has between 3 and 6 MCQ at the end of each module (except Modules 1 and 2).

The course is supported with an extensive range of resource material which is free to download at any time during the course. A Home Study Pack is an integral part of the course structure. On completion the delegate will immediately be able to download a pass certificate. (Accredited certificate will be posted within 8 weeks).

The nationally recognised and accredited certificate (awarded by the Open College Network (OCN Credit4Learning)) can be added to any other existing credit values (cumulative credits), and these may also count towards other similar college or university courses.

The course is a natural progression route for both trainee as well as practicing and experienced phlebotomists wishing to expand on their existing phlebotomy qualifications.

Additional entry requirements

Previous experience or certificate in phlebotomy OPTION 1: (i) Introduction to Phlebotomy certificate (or similar award with another approved training provider). (ii) A basic understanding of numeracy and literacy. OR OPTION 2: You must be currently or recently working in the capacity of a phlebotomist (with a minimum of 6 months' experience).
