Course description

Advanced Apprenticeship in Electrotechnical Services (Electrical Maintenance & Installation Pathways):

The Installation pathway is designed for apprentice Electrical Installation Technicians who are completing the installation, inspection, testing and commissioning of electrical systems, devices, appliances and equipment in domestic, industrial, commercial, leisure and agricultural buildings, structures and environments. The Maintenance pathway is designed for apprentice Electrical Maintenance Technicians who are involved in Maintaining, servicing and repairing electrical and electronic systems in commercial, leisure, industrial and agricultural buildings, structures and the environment. This may include office blocks, leisure complexes, shopping centres or automated production systems. The Level 3 programme is delivered in the workplace over a three year period. Day release to College for the Knowledge element of the apprenticeship is over two years depending on when apprentices start the programme.

Additional entry requirements

Although there are no minimum entry requirements to undertake the Level 3 Apprenticeship in Electrical Installation or Electrical Maintenance, applicants should: have an aptitude for technical subjects and/or are practically minded, show an interest in technology, demonstrate an ability to solve practical problems, have the motivation to succeed, be willing to learn and apply that learning in the workplace, good colour vision to recognise colour coded wires and components, ability to work at heights or in confined spaces and willingness to work outside.
