AAT Level 1 Access Award in Bookkeeping Accounts: Waltham Forest Adult Learning Service Course Information Sheet 2018-19 Course Title: AAT Access Award in Book-keeping Level 1 This course could lead to employment, self-employment or skills for future employment. Who is the course for? The aim of this course is to introduce you to key single-entry manual bookkeeping skills. As a standalone qualification, or as a first step towards the intermediate and advanced levels, it will allow you to move up further study in bookkeeping, accountancy or computerised accounts and will suit you if: You would like a solid introduction to bookkeeping or just a refresher You need bookkeeping skills for your business You are interested in running bookkeeping services for local businesses You are currently in employment or training and you need workplace skills You would like to acquire new skills to help with a change in your career Do you gain any qualifications? This course is accredited by AAT. You will gain a Level 1 Bookkeeping Award. Do you need to be interviewed or assessed before enrolling on the course? Learners will need to attend a pre-course interview and complete an assessment at Queens Road Learning Centre prior to enrolment on the course. Please contact us on to book. What will you learn? Introduction to bookkeeping Understand financial transactions Process customer and supplier transactions Process receipt and payments During the course you will gain skills in: Understand the role of the bookkeeper Ways to keep information confidential Importance of working with accuracy The buying and selling process Basic bookkeeping terminology The dual effect of transactions Prepare sales invoices and credit notes Check purchases invoices and credit notes Record sales and purchase invoices and credit notes in the books of prime entry Identify outstanding amounts of individual customers and suppliers Enter receipts and payments into a cash book Use the cash book to calculate closing amounts of cash in hand and cash in the bank Check the closing amount of cash in the bank against the closing balance on the bank statement Essential equipment and resources AAT registration is included in the fee. Students will need to bring a calculator to each lesson, ideally a desktop calculator. Students should also bring a pen, a pencil, highlighter pens and a notebook to each lesson. What next? AAT Access Award in Accounting Software (Sage) Level 1 AAT Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting Holidays Most courses run term-time only.
