Overview

Varndean College, Brighton & Hove is a popular and successful sixth form college with over 1,200 students aged 16 to 18. In the evenings it opens its doors to the community to offer a wide range of courses for adults.

Full or part-time Access to Higher Education courses are also available and we also run a series of Foundation Learning courses.

The college has a very well-deserved and widespread excellent reputation, based on the achievement of its students and its whole ethos of encouragement and support to all students, allowing them to achieve their full potential. The three words which sum up the characteristics and attributes of Varndean College - Progressive, Distinctive, Successful - capture the essence of what we are all about.

Research amongst prospective students has proved they look for a college which offers a wide variety of subjects to choose from and has a high level of academic achievement. Equally important is a feeling that the teaching staff is really enthusiastic about their subjects and there’s a great relationship between staff and students. Varndean College more than meets these expectations.

We have a consistently very high A Level pass rate, our International Baccalaureate students were in the top 3% worldwide last year. We’ve seen a 39% increase in the number of university places offered to our students since 2007 and this year we had a record number of Oxbridge place offers.

We offer a huge number of subjects – over 60 Level 3 courses and a range of vocational and intermediate courses to suit all interests and abilities.
