Hotcourses' view on Myerscough College

Originally known for its agricultural offering, Myerscough College dates back to the 19th century but has expanded substantially with the addition of other centres in Blackburn, Burnley, Liverpool and Manchester. The college saw roughly 7,000 students walk through their doors last year with 2,500 of them being full-time. The college boasts a partnership with the University of Central Lancashire, where students at Myerscough are enrolled both at the college and at the university and are able to access a range of facilities across both establishments.

Overview

Myerscough College is one of the UK’s largest land-based colleges and has a strong reputation for its Higher Education courses and academic research. Established in 1894, the College has its main centre just a few miles north of Preston. The picturesque countryside campus is well resourced and extends to some 600 hectares. The College offers Foundation Degrees and Honours Degrees in a wide range of land-based and sports related subjects. We have excellent links with industry, ensuring that our courses provide students with the best skills and training for their future employment.

Facilities

We have an excellently resourced library and IT centre and, as a Partner College of the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), students also have access to the facilities at UCLan in Preston city centre, including the award-winning Students Union. We also offer a range of learning support services, welfare and careers advice, and counselling support.

Accommodation

The College has single rooms, twin rooms and single en-suite self-catering rooms available. There is on-site accommodation for 750 students. Priority is given to first-year students living more than 25 miles from the College. Weekly rent ranges from £78 for self-catering to £125 for single en-suite with 7 days a week catering. If you choose to live off-campus there is a good choice of private accommodation - either in the local rural community or in and around Preston city centre.

Student story

Name: Sukhdeep Singh Garcha

Course studied: FdSc Motorsports

''I came to Myerscough as its motorsports team is a professional outfit with workshops and facilities to match. I was very impressed with the College's race cars and the number of events they compete in. The teaching staff also impressed me as they all have industry experience, which I thought was important. The College has a friendly atmosphere and, as a residential student, I found it easy to make friends when I first came here. The social life is also really good and that’s all down to the Student's Association, which is excellent."

Fees & funding

Myerscough College is the largest partner college of the University of Central Lancashire. A range of bursaries, achievement grants and scholarships are available. More information about student loans, maintenance grants and bursaries is available on the College website.
