Overview

Havering College is an award winning centre for lifetime learning and training, offering a diverse range of qualifications from entry level to postgraduate degrees. Our mission is to deliver high quality education and training that responds to the needs of employers and individuals.

To that end, we’re constantly working to deliver courses that are developed in conjunction with employers to ensure that you have the opportunity to develop the relevant skills required for your industry.

We offer an excellent support system with an emphasis on teacher contact time and each course been designed with progression in mind, flowing from one level to the next and eventually leading into employment.

If you’re already employed, our courses can get you on the right path towards promotion, serving to develop new and existing skills that can greatly benefit you in your current role.

If you’re thinking about applying for one of our higher education courses, there’s never been a better time to enrol at Havering College. Our HE courses are approximately £6,000 and with the recent Government proposal to increase fees to £12,000 from 2017, you could cut your student debt in half.

Our Student Services team are on hand to discuss financial aid with you and can help you assess the level of support you’re entitled to (19+ student loans, grants, bursaries and tax exemption). Our support team and lecturers can also help you submit your UCAS application and are available to provide useful information, support & guidance throughout your college experience.

Our campuses offer an impressive collection of facilities that are equipped with industry standard software and equipment. These facilities are accessible to all students and where possible, equipment can be hired out.

Student life

Student Services

Student Services is here to support you while you study at Havering College. The service provides information, advice, guidance, financial support, counselling, careers advice, one to one personal support, extra curricular activities, events and lots of enjoyable ways to fill your free time.

Student Services operate across all College sites to ensure that all students have access to the support they might need. We exist to support and encourage students and do all we can to aid academic success. We understand that sometimes, through no fault of your own, learning can be the last thing on your mind if money worries or distractions at home or among your peers are disrupting your studies. Student Services staff understand this and are here to help. Youth workers will also help you organise and attend a whole variety of activities in partnership with the Student Union.

Student Union

All Havering College students are automatically part of the Students’ Union. This is led by an elected committee who work closely with Student Services to offer a range of extracurricular activities including fundraising, trips, awareness raising events and parties. If you want to gain the most from your student experience at Havering College and are willing to work hard as part of a team, putting yourself forward for election could prove an excellent decision!

Disability Support

The College welcomes and encourages applications from disabled people. We are able to provide specialist advice and guidance to all who enquire about our courses. The Learning Support Service can offer advice and guidance to students who have or are:

Come to one of our Open Days, take a tour around the College, meet tutors and students and find out about life at Havering College.  Discuss the options open to you with your Careers Advisor, your teachers and parents.  Threshold Services are also happy to advise you and offer a daytime and evening drop-in service.

Our opening hours at Ardleigh Green are Monday to Thursday 9am -8.30pm and Friday 10am - 5pm during term time and Monday to Thursday 9am - 4.30pm and Friday 10am – 4.30pm at other times. 

Our opening hours at Quarles are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 9am - 4.30pm and Friday 10am – 4.30pm during term time only.

Stepping Stones Day Nursery

Stepping Stones Day Nursery is placed within the grounds of Ardleigh Green Campus of the college. It caters for children aged from 3 months to 5 years. Anyone can use the nursery, staff and students of the college as well as members of the general public.

The nursery is open 51 weeks of the year. As you would expect of a nursery that is located within a high achieving college, the staff are very highly qualified, exceeding the requirements as laid down by Ofsted.

The nursery has had very good Ofsted inspections and is rated highly by them.

Jubilee Restaurant

Our Jubilee Restaurant is open to the public and staffed by students in the kitchens, as well as front of house.

We also cater for special in-house and outside events. The Jubilee can be booked subject to availability for anyone who has an exclusive function or party.

Hair and Beauty Salons 

We have fully equipped hair and beauty salons with professional products and equipment across 2 sites at our Ardleigh Green Campus and in Brentwood. Our students have a caring and professional attitude.

All our treatments are carried out under supervision and only professional products are used. Treatments are offered at reduced costs to reflect the fact that we are a training establishment.

We have a full range of treatments available, our L’Oreal Professional Flagship Salon provides all hairdressing services and we have a full range of retail products for people to purchase.

At present we are offering a wide range of Holistic Therapy Treatments such as massage and reflexology.

We have a full range of Beauty products for people to purchase such as OPI nail polishes, Fake Bake, Dermalogica face and Body Products.

Library and LRC

Our Learning Resources Centres (LRC) support teaching and enhance the learning experience of our students. The college provides a world of specialist multimedia study resources which are available at your fingertips, including an interlending service with the British Library, making sure those hard-to-get items are well within your reach.
