"Europe’s leading visual effects (VFX) academy, Escape Studios sprang into life in 2002, to solve the industry’s lack of studio-ready VFX talent"
Escape Studios, part of Pearson College London is Europe’s leading VFX academy, dedicated to preparing artists for a career within the VFX and Games industries. We opened our doors back in 2002, when the barriers to entry in the creative industries were at their peak. Today, we set ourselves apart by being the go-to destination for Oscar-winning studios by providing the industry with the next generation of studio-ready artists.
If you put in the time, passion and hard work, we promise to deliver a highly vocational, industry-focused training experience, and make you a part of a long-lasting global community.
Our courses are designed with industry experts and delivered at our London campus, while also offering an online training alternative to suit each individual. With the new additions of Games and Animation to our curriculum, our portfolio spans from short intensive courses in 3D VFX and Compositing (2D), Motion Graphics and Games, to postgraduate options including a Postgraduate Certificate which can be taken in both routes or Masters (MA) in Visual Effects and Game Art.
Escape is located in the heart of London’s Shepherds Bush, a thriving creative neighbourhood, which emulates a real-world production environment. Our classrooms recreate the technology, collaborative workspaces and overall atmosphere found in today’s top VFX studios.
Celebrate the creative industries with us at The VFX Festival 2016 (a sell-out event) – now incorporating Games and Animation.

John Gresko - Escapee - Matchmove Artist
Interstellar, Exodus. Terminator, Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation
I worked in Architecture and concept design for 7 years before deciding to chase the dream and be a part of the VFX industry. After completing the 3D for VFX course at Escape, I worked there as a 3D Studio Assistant for 8 months while finishing my reel, then started working for Double Negative.
What’s your favourite movie and why?
‘Alien’ 1979. I never get tired of thinking about the concept of this film. The first hour is as good as it gets for me!
What are you working on at the moment?
At the moment, the new Spectre film!
If you had to sum up your time at Escape Studios in one word what would it be and why?
What drew me to Escape was the benefit of having assistance when problems arise. Learning at home is fine but when you get stuck it can be frustrating and time consuming when finding solutions.
At Escape, all the help you could ever need is right there in the classroom. What I enjoyed most was the atmosphere in the studios and being around talented and creative people. Seeing what students thought up and realised was inspiring!
For me, the word that fits best would have to be ‘Rewarding’. Without my time at Escape, I would not have the job I have today
How did studying at Escape Studios help you start out in the industry?
To be an artist in the industry, you need a showreel. Escape showed me the standard required and taught me the skills I needed to make that possible
What lessons have you learnt from both, studying and your time working in industry?
I learnt just how much quality work has to go into making it, never stop taking notes, always work efficiently. My time in industry has taught me to take even more notes!
What is your advice for those considering entering the industry?
Be ready to work very hard, as competition for jobs is fierce and the standard is high. When studying (wherever it may be) take as many notes as possible because there is simply so much to learn.
I’m now a Matchmove Artist as Double Negative which is an awesome place to work. Getting to see the evolution of the VFX as they happen is inspiring and watching the masters at work is really cool!
Being a part of the team that won an Oscar and BAFTA for the visual effects in Interstellar is something I am very proud of and I feel truly privileged to have been involded in.
