Only completed one day so far. But everyone has been very helpful
I have spent almost three weeks reviewing virtually every personal training course in the UK (a dozen to be precise). I feel like I know this business inside out. To save you the trouble, do yourself a favour and before calling anyone else, talk to Discovery Learning. The scope of courses and sheer content of what you get for the money wins by a country mile. As an added bonus they supply YMCA qualifications which was an important consideration for me.
Just to say a huge thanks for getting me through my level 3 personal training. The tutor was fantastic, giving us a good grounding not just to pass our assessments but to be great PT's. My assessor was also great, ensuring the assessments were a really good learning experience in themselves (and enjoyable, despite being nervous!) Thank you Discovery!
I wanted to write this review to say that I cannot recommend the Discovery team highly enough. From start to finish I had great service. The sales team were very informative but not pushy. The courses are the best value for money I could find - and this course is a nice mix of home study and practical work at the weekend with a tutor. Andreas was fantastic, he is so friendly yet really knows his stuff. I contacted head office to upgrade to L3 and they were really helpful, talking me through the different options available for me, and telling me about the job opportunities there are as a personal trainer. I would like to thank everyone at Discovery and will see you all soon when I come back for L3 in a few weeks' time!
The on-line info and work book was full of spelling and grammatical errors, not to mention information that was simply incorrect. Some of the pictures of the exercises were the wrong way around, and some of the descriptions gave the wrong prime muscles. At the end of each module there was an on-line quiz. I really liked this however there were 2 questions where the answers provided were wrong. The team confirmed this when I emailed them querying it. This is very worrying, I was confident enough to know I was right, but there will be students who will trust that the data is correct. The practical training was 2 days (Saturday and Sunday) and was set up and taught well, and the facilities were great. The practical assessment the following weekend however was a very different experience. The 2 assessors were very rude and unfriendly, and treated me and fellow students as if we were stupid and they didn't want to be there. Very unprofessional and really knocked my confidence. The service I received from the staff in the office was very hit and miss. I emailed them twice during my study and got a response within 24 hours, which I was impressed by, and whenever I have spoken to someone on the phone they have always been helpful and polite. However, this did not last. Once I'd completed my course I emailed them numerous times and got no reply. After phoning twice I got a response to my email. I emailed them again to find out when I would get my certificate and again got no answer to my email, and had to call them again to get an answer. My next step is to study the level 3 Personal Trainer course, but I will not be doing this through Discovery Learning. The errors in the coursework material, rudeness of the assessors and lack of communication from the admin team mean I won't study with them again. They offer cheap courses, but I would rather pay a bit more and be confident that I am learning correct information and getting a good service.
