Overview

 

Chesterfield College caters for a wide range of learners, providing foundation courses, A Levels, Apprenticeships, vocational and professional qualifications, diplomas and degrees, in subjects that include construction, fitness and wellbeing, science and humanities, business, engineering, art and design, hospitality and catering, uniformed public services, information technology, child care, hair and beauty, amongst others.
 
The College's Infirmary Road campus has recently undergone a facelift, with a new reception and social heart space where staff, students and visitors can relax and socialise. This main campus is located close to the centre of Chesterfield. Tapton House is a mile further out of town on Brimington Road.
 
Chesterfield College is in the top 30 colleges in the UK and is recognised as one of the best UK organisations in the country to deliver employer training and development solutions.
 
The College is a highly regarded centre for work-based learning, as delivered through its subsidiary, Learning Unlimited, offering training in partnership with local companies, and is the largest deliverer of Apprenticeships in Derbyshire.
 
With over 700 courses to choose from, some 8,000 students study at Chesterfield College, 4,700 of which are full-time, another 500 are studying for higher education courses, and over 2,500 adult and other part-time learners.

Subject strengths

We aim to deliver excellent courses across our curriculum areas and achieve enviable achievement rates in all areas of the College.

Areas of particular note are Art and design, Hair and Beauty and Engineering. Our Fabrication and Welding department has recently been heralded as a national Showcase Centre by ABC Awards, becoming the first in the UK to gain the accolade.

Student life

Spending time at college will bring different experiences to each individual, regardless of whether you are studying full time or attending evening classes. Chesterfield College is a fun, friendly, stimulating and welcoming place to study.
 
We have state-of-the-art information and communication technology facilities with a Virtual Learning Environment providing students with 24 hour access to online course materials and information. Our library learning centres provide a modern, light and airy environment in which to study and conduct research, offering a broad range of books, journals and pamphlets.
 
We also have a range of facilities that are open to all our students including a fully equipped gym, hair and beauty salons, Costa Coffee at Infirmary Road, Quad'rant Restuarant and a wide variety of sports clubs using our indoor and outdoor courts and pitches including: football, cricket, basketball, volleyball, badminton, indoor hockey, handball, trampolining and tennis. We also have our Football Academy initiative which serves to get both male and female players into the sport through close links with local clubs whilst earning a qualification.

Facilities

We have three main campuses at Infirmary Road, (Chesterfield), Tapton House (Chesterfield) and Waterloo Court (M1, Junction 29a) – all offering a range of modern facilities, courses and activities. Some courses are also delivered at our centre in Clowne. We strive to use the latest technology and equipment to help you develop your skills.

Location

The College has three sites. The main campus is on Infirmary Road in Chesterfield, just a short walk away from the town centre and within easy reach of Chesterfield town centre. Tapton House is a mile away from Infirmary Road, and is situated around the 18th century home of railway pioneer, George Stephenson. The third College campus is in Clowne, a village ten miles North East of Chesterfield. All campuses provide a safe environment for all our learners. For information on how to find us click here.

How to enrol

To apply for a course at Chesterfield College, visit the website and download an application form (Application Form - (Full Time AND Part Time), or contact the College to be sent a form in hard copy (01246 500562 or email us).
 
Some of our part-time courses require you to complete an application form and, in some instances, attend an interview, but for other part-time courses you can enrol straight away either in person or via the College website. Before your enrolment can be accepted you will need to pay your fee as listed in the course information.
 
You can pay by cash, cheque or credit/debit card, and for any course with a fee higher than £150 you can pay by instalments – just ask when you enrol. Some courses require an interview. For these courses, you can apply online. Alternatively, you can download and complete the 'Application Form' below, and post it to:
