How to become Colon Hydrotherapist

What does a Colon Hydrotherapist do?

Colon hydrotherapists may also be known as colonic irrigationists. Colon hydrotherapy is a treatment designed to cleanse the colon of waste products and toxins. This can be done to alleviate certain medical conditions as well as to improve general health and well being.

At the start of the treatment, therapists begin by taking a detailed medical history from the client, including lifestyle, diet, and any symptoms or areas of concern. They then decide on a diagnosis and discuss the treatment programme with the client.

The main part of the treatment involves inserting a tube filled with filtered water warmed to body temperature into the client's body. The tube is repeatedly flushed with water to cleanse the colon and flush out any waste products. This process may be accompanied by massaging the abdomen and other pressure points. When the treatment has finished, hydrotherapists dispose of fluids in accordance to set procedures, and prepare the room and sterilise equipment before the next treatment.

Colon hydrotherapists may make suggestions for further health improvements regarding diet and lifestyle. Therapists may also need to refer people to doctors or other health professionals when necessary.

What's the working environment like working as a Colon Hydrotherapist?

There are usually no set working hours as most colon hydrotherapists have to be flexible to meet the needs of their clients. Most sessions will last 90 minutes, including time for the client to change before and after the treatment, and a consultation. The actual treatment normally lasts 45 minutes.

Therapists usually work in private consulting rooms with access to specialist equipment.
