First published date July 18 2011 Amended date October 17 2011

Impressed by her academic prowess and her community efforts for young people, a major law firm has already signed Faiza Mukith up, and is helping to fund her law qualifications…

Name: Faiza Mukith
Institution : Tower Hamlets College
Course: A2-level English Language, Government  and Politics and Psychology

The potential of Faiza Mukith was spotted early at high school. She began studying towards her GCSEs in Year 9 and came out with an astonishing  13 qualifications in total. She is part of the College’s Aim Higher programme, which encourages and rewards high academic achievement and is now studying towards her A2-level exams in English Language and Literature, Government and Politics and Psychology.

‘It was tough to do so many GCSE exams but I did Geography early and Bengali in my spare time so it was fairly spread out. Tower Hamlets College is local to me so I knew it had a good reputation and it would be a good way to bridge the gap between school and university.’

Faiza was elected as the Deputy Young Mayor of Tower Hamlets while in Year 11 and spent a year campaigning and putting forward the views of young people in the borough through initiatives such as the Children and Young People’s Plan (CYPP). She is now a member of the UK Youth Parliament and looks back on her year fondly. She explains: ‘It was a great experience and it felt like I could make a difference and influence people.’

Faiza wants to study Law at university and was recently awarded a bursary from Simmons and Simmons which will pay for half of her tuition fees throughout university, includes a mentor from the company for the whole three years and offers a training contract with the firm once she’s graduated.
