Back to work blues

Get ready for summer this bank holiday weekend

Are you suffering from a case of back to work blues after the Easter break? Here at Hotcourses we know exactly what will pull you out of this slump. With only two weeks to go until the next long weekend, it is never too soon to start planning your May Day bank holiday break!

May marks the final month of spring which means summer is officially 52 days away - close enough for us to almost smell the sun cream! Spurred on by the unseasonal sunshine, it isn’t quite time to start packing (surely no one is that organised) but why not use the extra day off to start getting prepared for your holidays? To help with your to-do list we have made a list of courses perfect for the bank holiday.

Learn a language

You’ve been ‘just meaning to’ for years, now is the time to start learning a second language ahead of your travels. It’s often thought that being immersed in a new language is the best way to learn, however this can be a rather disorientating experience and you will have a much better time if you speak a few words of the local language. Whether it is French or Japanese, get going now by signing up to a course, with a tutor who can help you master the all important pronunciation.

Get that summer body

For many of us, we only start to dread the arrival of the swimwear season the week before getting on the plane. Get in shape early this year and kick start your summer fitness plan this bank -holiday. Swimming and running are great calorie burners, or for something a little more exciting, a polo or paragliding course is an exhilarating addition to your long weekend.

Leaving all four paws behind

Jetting off on your next adventure is always exciting, but make sure you don’t forget the important member of the family you are leaving at home. The bank -holiday is the perfect occasion to enrol in a course and learn to train your pooch to be the perfect guest whilst you are away. On the other hand, if you find yourself pet sitting this year why not brush up your pet care skills before your visitor arrives?

The darling buds of May

The long weekend is the perfect excuse to get the garden in shape before a trip abroad, or even take some inspiration from an exotic location. If you find the idea a little mundane, why not experiment with a gardening design course? As spring comes to an end, make sure you use the weekend to plant seeds for a perfect summer’s bloom.

It’s all about the blog

Writing a blog is the perfect way to document your trip of a lifetime. The twenty first century equivalent of a diary, a blog is the modern way to share your travels with those at home. If your writing skills are a little rusty, a May Day master class is the perfect way to become expert in the likes of Tumblr, Wordpress and Blogspot before you jet off.

Snap happy

A holiday isn’t over until you have uploaded the photos on Facebook. Whether you are using an iPhone, disposable camera or an SLR, a photography course is the best way to ensure you won’t miss a moment. Novice or expert, we are sure that you will not regret enrolling in a landscape photography course over the bank holiday as your friends comment on your faultless images in August.

Finally, in the words of Mika, ‘relax, take it easy’ – as much as we all love a little home renovation, bank holidays are not all about DIY and decorating, but time for a little TLC. May is also National Smile Month, so take a weekend off and enjoy the sunshine!
