Course Description
Students will study five main topic areas during this two year Edexcel GCSE course. They will take a final examination in the Summer Term of Year 11 when they will be assessed on reading, speaking and listening. All writing is assessed as coursework and candidates have two years to complete three pieces of writing of approximately 200 words each. Each skill is given equal weight - 25% of the total. There are two tiers for this subject - Foundation (C-G Grades only) and Higher (A*-E only). Students will be advised as to which level they would be best suited, based on previous performance, class work and homework. It cannot be emphasised enough the importance of making a good start to this programme. Many of the topics will already have been covered in previous school years, so this is an opportunity to broaden your knowledge and have a practical skill to show for your efforts at the end. We aim to make the course interesting, lively, fun and challenging with regular opportunities for ICT and we involve games as part of our teaching styles. We now have well-established links with partner schools in the south of France and exchanges are planned for both Y10 and Y11. This has proved very successful in the past and it is hoped that many students will take up this opportunity. We have additional support for all our students once a week with a French Language Assistant, so all students can speak French on a regular basis.
