Course Description
All projects start with a number of observation drawings in a variety of media. The pupils research artists who have studied similar subjects or worked in a related style to their own, to gain inspiration and knowledge. The projects are developed using the observation drawings and the artists studies by trying different techniques, compositions and media and making modifications and improvements. Eventually a final piece is produced which is the culmination of all the preceding work. Four main objectives are: visual recording; analysis of images and artefacts; development of ideas and media trials; realisation of intentions. All work produced during the two years counts towards the GCSE grade. Visits to exhibitions and galleries form an important part of the GCSE and students are encouraged to support their work with the use of photography and information technology. To ensure success, students would be expected to spend some time each week in the Art department outside lesson times. Strict assessment deadlines are set and maintained

Students would be expected to show enthusiasm and aptitude for art and a willingness to explore new and unfamiliar ideas and working methods.
Equipment and Materials
Visits to exhibitions and galleries form an important part of the GCSE and students are encourage to support their work with the use of photography and information technology (digital imagery, internet research etc).
