david has been composing guitar pieces for several years that draw on a rich exposure to a variety of music styles througout his life. fascinated by the beauty and passion of flamenco music and inspired by artists such as paco de lucia, paco pena and vincente amigo, david spent a month in spain studying this powerful art. it is david's ambition to continue returning to spain to absorb more of the flavour of flamenco into his own compositions.
david started playing guitar at the age of eight, initially learning the basics through playing classical music. having an irish mother, david grew up with the sounds of irish jigs and reels at home and has always been an influence on his playing. david soon became fascinated by the electric guitar and in particular the improvised approach to blues used by many famous guitarists, most notably for him, eric clapton, jimi hendrix, peter green and jimmy page. david studied the art of improvisation, that took him on a journey through blues and like many of those early players, on towards rock and jazz.
david has always loved the acoustic guitar and continued to develop his classical skills, but it was the album "friday night in san fransisco" by al di meola, john mclaughlin and paco de lucia that really changed his musical direction. although mesmerised by the skills of al and john, it was the flamenco playing of paco that he was drawn to and a quest to discover more about the fabulous art of flamenco...
He teaches a variety of styles including the sort of music you can hear on his website but also many of the more usual styles such as classical, rock and blues. He can also teach flamenco for anyone wanting to try something a little different!
