Students explore the diversity of animal form and function and its evolution; students discover how animals interact with one another and their environments, and learn about their development.
Year 1 compulsory modules: ecology and evolution; organismal diversity; cell and molecular biology; key skills; biology practicals; tutorials; essential chemistry (if you do not have Chemistry AS). Optional modules: animal science; the chemistry of us; beginners� German, French, Spanish, Italian or Welsh. Year 2 compulsory modules: animal form and function; animal co-ordination and control; animal biology practicals; animal physiology/histology; skills in biological sciences. Optional modules: parasitology; evolution; animal behaviour; cellular causes of disease; biosciences internet tools; laboratory placements; basic Welsh. Year 3 compulsory modules: animal survival strategies; fish biology; herpetology; writing skills. Optional modules: molecular ecology and evolution; vector biology; freshwater ecosystems; cancer biology; excursion to Tenerife; taxonomy/vertebrate biology; wildlife conservation; genome biology in medicine; cichlid fish biology. Year 4: is dedicated to an individual research project (80 credits) and 3 taught modules (40 credits) including: current topics in zoology; research skills in natural sciences; and an optional module from our postgraduate list.
