This course is designed to provide opportunities for all youth support workers to gain a qualification and recognition in youth work. It is also a good route for those considering a career change and are wanting to work with young students. They will primarily learn about health, safety and welfare within their work. There are 8 core units which include: design and development of sessions with young students, values, ethics and self esteem in youth work, group work with young students, researching needs and provision for young students.
Students must be over 16 years of age and have literacy skills equivalent to GCSE Grade C or above. They must also be in either paid or unpaid work in a youth setting, for example, voluntary work in a youth club for a minimum of 6 months.
