Students study a range of course units which explore young people's development and the practice of working with young people in contemporary Britain; in the 1st part, these concentrate on face-to-face practice and include work on equalities, group work, and developing young people's learning; in the 2nd part, the units enable students to acquire the knowledge and understanding that underpins high quality youth work and its management, including working with other agencies; the university-taught units are extended through work-based learning which is supervised by an experienced professional; in the last year, students also undertake a work-based investigation that provides them with experience of research skills and evidence-led practice.
Modules include: Equalities, fair treatment and anti-discriminatory practice; young people's learning and informal education; adolescent development; working in and with groups; policy influencing young people's lives; legal and cultural contexts for working with young people; managing people and resources; inter agency working; creating and assuring quality youth work; work-based project.
