The course explores the human past across all inhabited areas of the globe, from the last Ice Age to historic times; it covers most of the past 12,000 years, ending with the fall of the Roman Empire in Europe, but continuing until the 18th-Century in the Pacific and North America; its main focus is the development of human culture and societies, from agriculture to technology, and from the earliest civilisations to the spread of populations worldwide.
