West Suffolk College is a
leading provider of education and training in the area, serving the
needs of industry, business and the community.
West Suffolk College's
continued commitment to quality, investment in the latest equipment and a
staff dedicated to excellence ensures that a stimulating environment in
which to work is provided for both students and staff.
West
Suffolk College is a further education College. The main campus in Bury
St Edmunds is located in Out Risbygate (with the main entrance off
Western Way, near the Sports Centre). Construction and Building Services
are located in extensive, purpose-designed workshops at nearby Anglian
Lane. In addition, the rural community is served through LEAP centres
(Learning and Enterprise Action Points) in Haverhill, Mildenhall,
Stowmarket and Sudbury, and a centre in IP-City, Ipswich.
The College
uses over a hundred different venues around the county to deliver
programmes.
The College's 2009/10 student enrolment was 15,558
of whom 73 per cent were over 19years old and 27 per cent were 14-18
years old. We work closely with all the local upper schools. Through the
School Link programme, 573 school pupils come to
the College on one or
two days a week to access specialised vocational programmes in state of
the art facilities.
In addition to full-time, part-time and
Adult Education,
the College has a large contract for Apprenticeships
and Train to Gain Provision. In support of these programmes we work with
more than 1,200 employers and deliver a substantial volume of full cost
courses to employers.
West Suffolk College is a member of
University Campus Suffolk and provides full and part-time degree courses
for over 600 students. The UCS Bury St Edmunds graduation ceremony is
held in the Cathedral church of St James and St Edmund each year, and is
a very important day for our students and the town alike.

recent investigation into the socioeconomic impact of
the College
identified £193.2 million benefit to the region.
