Course Description
This course helps to address the growing demand at local, national and international levels for technically competent managers able to address public perception and participation in the water sector in regions where agriculture is a significant user of water resources. It provides students with the skills and knowledge of the science, technology and sociology of water management, enabling them to contribute to sustainable water management worldwide. The course comprises eight assessed modules, two group projects and an individual project. Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) and Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert) qualifications are available. Students undertaking the PgDip will be expected to complete the eight modules and the group projects associated with their chosen option. PgCert students will be expected to complete six modules selected from any of the options. The modules include lectures and tutorials and are assessed through written examinations and assignments. There is an emphasis on analysis of real problems, with practical field work to reinforce learning. This provides the 'tools' required for the group and individual projects. Course content includes: Economics of Environment and Resource Management; Managing Water for Agriculture; Soil, Plant, Water Management; Soil, Plant, Water Relationships; Surface and Groundwater Hydrology; Water Law; Water Management; Water Technology; Integrated Basin Management; Watershed Management for Soil Conservation; Group projects: The group projects are applied multi-disciplinary, team-based activities. They provide students with the opportunity to take responsibility for a consultancy-type project while working under academic supervision. Success is dependent on the integration of various activities and working within agreed objectives, deadlines and budgets.

Taught modules: 40%; Group projects: 20%; (dissertation for part-time students); Individual project: 40%

Entry Requirements
Candidates must possess, or be expected to achieve, a 1st or 2nd class UK honours degree or equivalent in a relevant science or engineering discipline. Other relevant qualifications, together with considerable experience, may be considered.

Venue Description
Accommodation may be available to those undertaking certain learning opportunities and the institution will provide details. Childcare facilities are available on site. Early booking of sessions is strongly recommended due to high demand of limited places. Guidance and advice may be available for all aspects of student life. Facilities/Support are available for students with learning difficulties.
