The course is developed in collaboration with major London post production houses to address the industry need for mature, innovative motion creative and design specialists; although the emphasis is on visual effects as opposed to special effects, students can visit the special effects studio of one of our many industry partners; a visual effects designer needs to be at ease on all current digital platforms and to understand the capabilities of compositing software and how this can be combined with live action, 3D, specially shot effects such as fire, smoke and lasers, and the use of blue screen shooting; additional skills include shooting backgrounds and directing people as well as model shooting; students have the opportunity to develop understanding of the research process and to develop tools for understanding business models, used by clients and employers; the opportunity to engage in experimentation and to accrue an impressive portfolio will be of benefit when starting a career in the visual effects industry.
