Success as a visual communicator and employability in the creative industries requires dedication and ability to communicate, organise and network, supported by flexibility and adaptability; students are actively encouraged to engage with all aspects of subject practice; this enables students to understand both the theoretical and philosophical framework of the subject and apply it to creatively practical outcomes; learning methods include: lectures, seminars, live projects, peer and group learning; there are also opportunities for field trips and study abroad; there is a rolling programme of guest lectures from key industry specialists.
Students have an introduction to 2 of 3 subject routes: graphic communication; illustration and photography; moving image; this facilitates the development of core technical, creative, critical and reflective skills and determines the specialist direction for the second and third year study.
