This informative, practical and engaging course is for those wanting to expand their creative pattern making and sewing skills and/or build a professional costume portfolio based on interpreting 1940 s and 50 s Horrockes dresses.

The course is open to beginners, enthusiastic amateurs, recent graduates as well as those with some professional fashion or costume experience. Ideally you will have had some experience of using a domestic sewing machine as you will be working with industry-style equipment using historical costume techniques that are unique to this region. 

The course is almost all practical but with some theory to understand the history and patterns. Projects will be tailored to the individual, so you will have the opportunity to make an entire garment to tailor fit you (or someone else).

By the end of the course you will have new skills in:

pattern drafting, construction and adaptation

developing basic blocks to period patterns

interpreting vintage patterns

machine and hand sewing techniques

creating various seams

working with decorations and finishings.

You will also have gained experience of working in a wardrobe environment, and completed (or thereabouts) a constructed individual garment. You will also have built a network of like minded people on a fun, exciting and sociable course.
